They’re in every meeting. They hit their deadlines. On paper, everything looks fine.
But underneath? They’re just going through the motions.

Recent data shows nearly half of leaders describe themselves as not fully engaged at work, with 34% reporting burnout daily or several times weekly. And it’s not because they don’t care—it’s because they’re exhausted from working in environments that don’t see them as whole people.

Here’s what I’ve learned from training hundreds of leaders in facilitation: engagement isn’t created through better agendas or more efficient processes alone.
It’s created when we make space for what’s really happening, when we listen without rushing to fix. When we acknowledge that people bring their whole selves—including their feelings, fears, and needs—into the room.

This is Whole-Person Leadership, and it’s the foundation of everything I teach in The Art of Facilitation program.

When leaders learn to facilitate themselves, others, and the entire group with presence and purpose, something shifts. People feel safe to contribute. Meetings become energising rather than draining. Decisions stick because people are genuinely committed.

Your people aren’t disengaged because they’re lazy. They’re disengaged because they’re disconnected. And that’s something we can change.
