Every year, new leadership trends emerge. AI fluency. Hybrid management. Purpose-driven strategy.
All important.
Here is one skill that I find at the heart of any other skills. It’s not what you do but how you do it, and the ability to hold presence in difficult moments, I think, is the key.
When stakeholder tensions escalate. When safety incidents occur. When teams disagree on critical decisions. When the pressure to deliver is crushing.
Your team doesn’t need a perfect plan in those moments. They need a leader who can stay grounded, create space for what’s hard to say, and facilitate a path forward without panic or force.
This is what I call the Four P’s in action:
Presence that steadies everyone in the room
Purpose that aligns people around a common goal
Power dynamics that support healthy relationships
Processes that give structure to complex communication
Trends come and go. Technologies evolve. But presence is timeless.
Practice staying present when everything in you wants to rush to a solution, defend your position, or shut down the discomfort.
That’s when your leadership matters most.
