This month I want to focus on something we don’t talk about enough: how we work with emotions at work, and how avoiding them leads to burnout, conflict, and disengagement.
The numbers tell a stark story. Reward Gateway’s 2025 Australian Workplace Engagement Index shows 58% of the Australian workforce considered leaving their job in the last six months. Kahoot reports that nearly half of leaders describe themselves as not fully engaged at work, with 34% saying they just want to feel engaged again. Leader burnout has reached crisis levels, with 34% reporting burnout daily or several times weekly.
Here’s my solution: Whole-Person Leadership.
This means listening without rushing to fix, acknowledging what’s really happening, and creating spaces where people can share authentically. Having conversations in regular check-ins, completion, and clearing processes that honour the full human experience. Building cultures of genuine inclusion.
The proof? In my 8-week facilitation training sessions, participants consistently comment on the depth of connection, flow, and engagement that are created through peer coaching and feedback. Even after 4 hours online together, they frequently share how energised and engaged they feel.
The secret ingredients? Purpose, Presence, and Processes that create real connection.
When we make space for feelings instead of pretending they don’t exist, we create teams that actually work.
