Regular alignment conversation keeps choice alive.
Ever tried running a relationship like a project? Sounds weird, right? But hear me out – our 5-year love story thrived because we treat alignment as seriously in love as I do in my workshops.
Here’s the thing about alignment – whether it’s in boardrooms or living rooms, most conflicts start with unspoken assumptions. You think they know what you want, they think they know what you mean, and before you know it, you’re both frustrated and wondering where things went wrong.
After getting burned by previous marriages, my partner and I chose a different path. We created what I lovingly call “Mini-Culture”™ sessions – yearly intention-setting meetings with quarterly check-ins. Sounds super formal for love, right? But it’s actually brought more freedom and peace to our relationship than any traditional approach ever did.
This alignment practice has guided us through every big decision:
- Living separately? We talked it through
- Moving in together? We set clear intentions
- Creating family? We aligned our visions
- Even our breakups and recommitments? Yep, those too
Now, we’re celebrating 5 years together with a Scottish handfasting ceremony – committing to each other for 2 years and 2 days, surrounded by our community. It’s our way of saying we choose each other, intentionally and freely.
Funny how a couple of hours of honest conversation can prevent months of misunderstandings. Whether in love or work, alignment isn’t just a business tool – it’s a superpower for keeping choices alive.
