As a Human Scientist, I’ve been reflecting on how AI, Natural Intelligence, and human wisdom can work together moving forward.
I’ve spent most of my career harvesting collective intelligence in groups—it’s a powerful intelligence that can only be accessed through skilful facilitative leadership. Recently, I facilitated a team alignment conversation where we created a team charter. For the first time, I observed the group utilising AI in their development process. I thought it was great.
This experience showed me something important about the teams I work with. Artificial Intelligence enables us to become smarter by accessing vast amounts of information that we couldn’t access quickly otherwise. But it’s up to us to decide how we use it. The magic happens when we utilise our human intelligence to augment our collective intelligence, consulting AI as just another perspective in the conversation, rather than as the final answer.
APPLY: Think of AI as a team member, not a replacement. When you’re facilitating or leading team discussions:
- Use AI to gather diverse perspectives quickly
- Let your human wisdom filter and apply what’s relevant
- Harness your team’s collective intelligence to make the final decisions
- Remember: AI informs, humans decide, teams implement
The most powerful intelligence emerges when all three work together.
