Most leaders and, with that, facilitators dread the moment the room goes quiet.
The conversation that heats up. The disagreement that surfaces out of nowhere. The silence after something difficult has finally been said.
I used to. Not anymore.
Because here’s what I’ve learned: conflict, when held well, is often the moment a group moves from working well enough to truly working in high-performance. It’s where real trust is built — not before the difficulty, but through it.
Only 27% of managers rate themselves as skilled in conflict resolution. Yet the research is clear — teams that can work through conflict constructively are more engaged, more innovative, and more resilient than those who avoid it.
The skill isn’t about managing conflict. It’s about facilitating it — creating the conditions where Truthfulness and Powerful Listening can do their work, and where a team emerges from difficulty stronger than they went in.
These are practised skills. Not personality traits. And they are learnable.
In our Advanced Facilitation Program, you practise facilitating groups through live, unscripted moments — including the hard ones. Because that’s where advanced facilitation actually happens.
If you’re a facilitator, leader, coach, or consultant who is ready to develop this level of capability, I’d love to be in the room with you.
